The much-anticipated Season 2 of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel debuts on Prime Video this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
Season 1 presents a large cast of personalities living within the afterlife, sets them at odds with musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes heated competitions and angsty, affectionate connections that fuel audience devotion.
The community's expectations for the new season differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will Angel Dust escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the mysterious "deal" constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Will [favorite character] and [other character] finally get together?
"Naturally, I don't produce the show with audience demands as the main goal," the creator stated earlier this year. "But I believe that me being a devotee of the series means there's a lot of it just inherently. I also want to see these things, and I want some of these things to happen, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
She reveals her long-term vision is for five seasons of Hazbin Hotel. Seasons 3 and 4 have received approval by Prime Video and A24, which produce the series.
That might mean viewers have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how fast season 2 progresses, and how many of what they're anticipating unfolds this season.
"I believe people are going to be highly satisfied," the creator notes. "We get some firsts. I think we receive some incredible disclosures, some really cool origin tales, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience much more singing from the previously silent cast members."
The creator is well-informed of the theories and desires about season 2 — particularly in the form of audience prediction charts.
"I've seen a couple people create a bingo card about season 2," she says. "Naturally I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and nearly every one of them have almost a bingo. I thought, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel the second season launches on the streaming service on October 29.
